Felting Frenzy

These hats are my babies.They are wet felted merino wool. It’s just so much fun to be able to start from the wool, pick any colour in the spectrum and create any shape I like. I call them small acts of insanity because they are so labour intensive, but I love every minute of it.

I have been playing with hand sculpting. This technique is often seen on vintage hats from the twenties and thirties and has had a resurgence in the millinery world. With hand made felt it has a cartoon quality. Sort of a comic book version of a serious hat.

The back of the hat is almost as fun as the front.
