Revisiting a Former Self

I just finished a wholesale order for one of my favourite customers, Beauchapeau in Niagara on the Lake. I was asked to make a particular straw hat and trim it any way I like. Music to my ears. I took a trip down memory lane to a former ultra romantic self and had a marvelous time creating this hat. I pulled out all sorts of vintage ribbons and antique lace.

I have also been busy making summer hats for the Halifax Seaport Market. I brought back one of my old standbys, Traveling Nellie, My parasisol straw travel hat. This style hat was originally designed in the 1940’s by a famous milliner named, Mr. John. They are not uncommon, but that is because it’s such a great practical design. They pack flat to fit in a suitcase, but look so cute when worn.

With the royal wedding in the air people are talking fascinators. One would almost think the wedding was taking place in Halifax. Amazing that this word is actually becoming commmon. Evgenia is modeling one of my organic cotton and hemp jersey fascinators.

If you are in the neighbourhood on Saturday, come visit me at the Seaport Market up on the mezzanine.
