I have a confession to make. I hate doing craft shows. I’m not a fan of crowds and being something of a control freak, I find it difficult to control my hats when faced with thousands of curious people. Children with food, adults with coffee, free chocolate samples at the next booth over before reaching for a $200 hat… The list goes on. So, before I allow myself to sink too far into a rant, let me say that I am so happy to be doing this show in a couple of weeks. The other four artists do great work and they are all friends, so if no one shows up we will just eat all the cookies that we are going to bake and have a great day. That said, PLEASE show up! I love my Halifax customers and I miss you and if you love me too, you won’t let me eat all the cookies. Keep scrolling down for the many reasons to come to this wonderful little show hosted by Mariko.
First there is Mariko. Mariko Patterson is a wonderful, warm force of nature. Her work is witty and fun and gorgeous. She does functional pottery as well as these incredible sculptures. I have a little shoe problem. I want these so badly.
Dannette Eden, the mastermind behind Seadog bags also has a little shoe problem. I’m not sure she would want me to share this information with the blogosphere, but she could give Imelda Marcos a run for her money. Maybe people with shoe problems make other accessories. Dannette makes her bags from recycled sail cloth and other industrial fabrics and they are great. I have three of her bags myself. They are so well made and functional.
Then there is Jennifer Harrison. I don’t know if she has a shoe problem. I’ll have to ask her. I know she has some nice shoes. Am I getting off track here? Jennifer’s paintings are available in galleries all over the place and I’m sure you can see why. One day I will get me one, but until then, I’m going to have to be satisfied with her calendar that she is putting out this year. She will also have original paintings available.
Last but not least is Allyson Symmie. I’m generally not a jewelry person. I’m not lying. I have two rings that I wear all the time and that is it. One is my wedding ring and the other is my Allyson Simmie ring that I made Tony buy me for our seventh wedding anniversary. I have since treated myself to one of her necklaces and a pair of earrings. I think of her as my personal jeweler.
So, you have probably by now figured out that my choice of artist buddies to join me has been entirely selfish, but I think you will also love all their work.
Please come join us on December 13th. Request for specific cookies can be left in the comments, but I probably will just bake what I want anyways. Don’t worry, you will like them.
