self employment insanity
The question of the day is: Can self employment, motherhood and sanity co exist? In the realm of my mind they haven’t met yet, but it must be possible. People do it all the time right? Honestly, if anybody out there has found a way to balance it all and breathes easy at the end of the day please let me know. One of my greatest challenges is that my day never ends. There is always something that needs to be done. I fantasize about getting a job at Tim Horton’s (that’s like Dunkin Donuts for my american friends) just so that I can punch out when my shift is over. Although a prouder person would not post a photo of their chaotic studio. I am doing so because it clearly illustrates the state of my brain. I’ve never been good at lists. I always forget where I put them. I’m trying again, though, because my self employed mother friend, Katja, told me how good it feels to cross things off. Today I did write a list and it did feel good to cross things off, but for every item I managed to cross off I found one more thing to add. I was so impressed when I found this great clothes designer on etsy who in her shop policies stated that she did not work on Sundays. All e-mails would be answered on Monday. What a concept. I’m going to try that tomorrow. I’m running away to look at the ocean with Dusty and Tony. I won’t allow myself back in the house until 6 p.m. I don’t care how cold it is. Even Tony and Dusty have been forced to think about hats. For the past few weeks Dusty has been creating these Lego hats. I only made the connection today to his creations and the fact that his mother eats, breathes and sleeps hats. Poor kid. So, don’t forget to send me your advice. I’m off to cross BLOG off my list. Happy Hatting. Anna
Just post a sign over the door of your studio,”Genius at Work” and don’t worry about keeping it tidy. I am a list maker and it does help. Happy Sunday!
Well, I try to keep lists, but I have the same problem. I cross off one thing only to add two. The old one step forward two steps back routine. I guess the positive is that I did make the one step forward! I like the Genius at Work idea. My shop is really bad! It is hard not to get consumed in the process… though a lovely process it is. I think you just have to set aside a day to be yours and commit to it. The old saying if it is important enough…well then it’s important enough! Take care, Mickey
yes…it is complete insanity! there is NEVER enough time for everything. EVER:) I have not been able to figure out how to breathe easy at the end of the day…but sometimes I just have to close the door on my studio and walk away!! My room is almost always a huge mess…but it is a “creative mess”;) I just try and embrace the fact that I have as many legos as paint tubes in my studio:):):)
happy week to you! xox..jenn
I tried the “punch in, punch out” job once…I found everything at home the same place it was when I left. The same demands, the same mess, the same desire to create and not be tied to a “punch in, punch out job” lol! Give yourself some grace and enjoy your time.
BTW, your summer hats are gorgeous!
I love your blog, but I must protest: Tim Hortons is NOT like Dunkin’ Doughnuts! Tim Hortons is its own, special, weird piece of Canadiana. With horrible doughnuts and horrible coffee.
Doughnuts and pizza–American creations that elude the Canadian psyche.
I can relate, Anna! Love your sense of humor and your creations! Thanks for visiting me today.
