Headbands, Halifax and Hat News
Hello! I have a new inanimate best friend. Meet my Minnie May headband. I made a batch of 12 and at 5:45 a.m, headbands in tow, I will be hitting the road for the Halifax Brewery Market, tomorrow (Saturday) from 8-1. Yes, I mentioned the time for the purposes of sympathy. Next week I will post these on my website for sale.
I made one for myself before Christmas and it rarely leaves my head. I am always in search of the perfect headband….perfect for me and hopefully for you, too. For me, the perfect headband holds its shape, but is also soft and comfortable. I am not a fan of anything that squeezes my head. I need to be unaware that the headband is there.
All modesty aside, I think Minnie May and I hit it out of the ball park. The headband looks structured, but is soft and cozy to wear. Come to think of it, this is probably the overarching theme of all my hats and headbands…and my wardrobe. Minnie May is made from woven wool fabrics for the top of the head and a silk casing that encloses an elastic to make the headband stretchy for the bottom of the head.
I love a design that allows me to use up scrap fabric. Small leftover pieces of fabric are always a challenge for designers and more often than not they end up in the garbage. Working from a scrap pile takes a lot longer than working from yardage, but it’s so satisfying.
In other news, my knitting patterns are 50% off until my birthday, in my Ravelry shop only. You can find them HERE. There aren’t a lot of them, but I’m slowly working on changing that. If you would like a kit to make the beret, you can find that HERE. The kits come with the pattern. I’m more than happy to custom dye up a special colour for you.
Speaking of my birthday, there are still a couple of spots left for my January 26th felt flower making workshop. Right now I have two ladies signed up, BUT these two ladies are amazing humans and I would sign up just to spend some time with them. Trust me on this. You can sign up HERE. These flowers are really fun to make. It’s basically like being in kindergarten again…trace and cut with small scissors.
Lastly, Every Tuesday is knit clinic. Knit clinic is basically a knitting circle, but with help. Hope you can join us. Well, so long for now. Hope to see some Halifax friends tomorrow. If you come please let me know how impressed you are that I woke up so early. I need lots of positive reinforcement.
Oh, ok, one last photo featuring the floof and my latest knit.
Love your head bands. Especially that the fabric is hand woven. Very impressed. I must get weaving.
Thanks, Ellie! Happy weaving.
